Tan Yu Ann

Ann is the Farmer of The Patatas. Her role involves seeding connections and forging strategic partnerships to better develop the projects and causes we champion. She believes in the collective value of all social networks and harnessing social capital to improve the lives of everyone involved. In Ann’s words, “a world we actually want to live in cannot be achieved alone“.

Raised in Singapore, Beijing and Hong Kong, Ann has developed an appreciation for cross-cultural communication and integration from a young age. Her efforts with various migrant and disadvantaged communities in East and Southeast Asia has seen her work with a wide range of individuals from marginalized migrant workers and orphaned refugees to sex workers and civil war survivors. She is particularly passionate about the empowerment of women and children and strongly believes in the importance of sustainability when development of any kind is involved. Holistic approaches to community and social development is what she’s all about. A keen fitness and team sports nerd, Ann has dabbled in competitive Sailing, Volleyball, Soccer and even Contact Rugby (a stint which was unfortunately cut short due to two shoulder dislocations). When not trying to come up with ways to do the most effective good possible, you can probably find Ann bothering her three-legged dog Noodle, pouring tears while attempting a low boat pose in Yoga or trawling through air tickets for her next adventure.
